THE PLACE  : TAKI

Taki is only a 2 hour distance from Kolkata. It is situated in the banks of the Ichamati waterway. On the opposite side of the Ichamati stream is Bangladesh. The experience of the newly made canopy jungle path walk inside the Golpatar jungle is unique and interesting. Remember to carry a photo identity proof if you want to visit the Golpatar jungle, as BSF will only let you enter the region if you have one. One can also visit the ruins of zamindar houses, Ramakrishna Missions, Kuleshwari Kali temple, 300 years old Jora Shib Mandir and General Shankar Roychowdhury’s adi bari. Machranga river island is a nearby destination to visit from Taki. The municipality has also built an eco-park that can boast to have a variety of birds and fishes in display. It also has facility for boating in its premises.

Best time to visit :

Taki can be visited any time of the year. However, the most suitable time to visit Taki is during the winter season, especially due to the original jaggery or Patali Gur available there. Another time to visit, which is equally memorable, is to watch the Goddess Durga immersion following the Durga puja. This is a spectacular event in Taki as idols from both the countries are immersed on the waters of Ichamati together.

How to Reach :

From Sealdah Station take Hasnabad Local train and get down at Taki Road Station. It is a 2 hour journey. A journey by car to Taki from Kolkata is also enjoyable. If you go by road then the  best option is to take the Malancha Highway . To avail the highway take the road opposite to the Science city and near Parama police station which leads through Leather Complex, Bantala. From Science City Taki is about 75km via Ghatakpukur. By road it takes around two hours. If you are visiting from the northern or central part of Kolkata then taking the Taki Road from Barasat Chapadali crossing would be the easient. Cross Berachapa, Trimohini and then you can see Taki.

Where you Stay :

There are few private guesthouses in Taki. However, the best place to stay in Taki is a Bagan bari (Garden house) which is called Bishram Bagan Bari, away from the picnicking crowd.  A beautiful pond, open lawn for kids to play, a temple, a small art collection and all modern facilities like AC, attached western bathrooms, make this Bishram Bagan Bari - the cosiest accommodation in Taki. The Icchamati river is only 3 mins walk from this baganbari. You should do prior booking at this baganbari before you actually reach Taki, as most weekends are pretty busy.
